Video: How to Grow Wheatgrass Indoors Using Recycled Materials

They use a mixture of soil and worm castings using 4-5 parts soil to 1 part worm castings. It’s a nice mixture that makes wheatgrass grow very easily.

They use soft white wheat berries. We usually use hard red winter wheat berries.

Instead of a tray, a simple box cover is used with a lining of a cleaner bag.

Pack the wheat berries tightly. “High density is what we are looking for.” Once the wheat berries are on top of the soil, another layer of soil is added. You can also cover it with newspaper or black plastic. This will give it darkness so it will germinate.

They use collected rainwater to water the wheatgrass. Once watered they put it next to a west facing window. You can also use growing lights. ONce it is about 8 inches high, it is ready to be harvested.
